Paris Hilton Strikes Again
Found this while catching up with soccer news.
Ms. Paris Hilton appointed ambassador to UNICEF. An unusually
flustered Hilton composed herself in time to offer this stunner, "I
just feel with all my heart that every animal deserves to be treated
with respect and dignity, and that is why I have agreed to accept
this appointment. Because I know I can bring great things to bear on
these unfortunate pets." One correspondent was overheard saying, "You
know, she might actually help."
Celebrities, sometimes.
Another Marine Survived
Over the weekend I met another young Marine at this wedding in Berkeley. He was an infrantryman who decided to fight in the frontlines instead of taking the relatively more comfortable route of OCS (officer candidate school). He completed his tour of duty in Iraq. He knew of Andy. It made me think how two very similar persons (both Korean American, college educated, love for country, and a strong sense of duty) went to Iraq and experienced very different fates. Many Iranians have died and are dying for a free Iran. One can argue American boys and girls are dying for a war (in Iraq) that is not theirs. Is it wasted? Perhaps. But without their heroism, sacrifice and a sense of calling, we would not have a free America. So to that, their labor (and death) is not in vain. Providence is hard to understand at times.
Sometimes We Do Funny Things
Yesterday I was offered a batch of mix for the Amish Friendship Bread from a colleague at work. Just so you know, I am not a baker. The little baking I have done, turned out horribly (reeses pieces sugar cookies in 2008, candied yams in 2005, corn bread in 2002?).
How will this turn out? We'll find out in 10 days. Yes, it takes 10 days to bake this.
